LA Knight is on the brink of achieving Championship Gold, as he is set to face Logan Paul for the United States Championship at SummerSlam.
The exchanges between Paul and Knight have been engaging, but now the talk is almost over as they prepare to clash in the ring next week. On tonight's SmackDown, the feud took another turn when, after Knight defeated Santos Escobar, he was ambushed by Paul, who hit him with a frog splash and stood over him triumphantly.
Before this incident, Knight and Escobar had an exciting match, which Knight won. However, Paul then unexpectedly attacked Knight, with Escobar's assistance in setting up Knight for the frog splash in the corner. Regardless of what happens at SummerSlam, Knight will likely seek revenge on Escobar for his part in the attack.
After the match, Paul hinted at some surprises for SummerSlam, mentioning that he had spoken to "Mr. Cleaveland himself" about a special homecoming, though he didn't reveal any details. Paul also taunted Knight by lifting a microphone and shouting Knight's catchphrase. We will have to wait and see if Knight responds later in the show, but his best revenge would be to win the Title at SummerSlam.
As for LA Knight, while we know him well by this name now, he has gone by other names in different wrestling companies, including Eli Drake. In a previous interview with ComicBook, Knight shared that the name "LA Knight" was always the planned choice. He explained, "There weren't a lot of other names considered; we went straight to LA Knight. It was always going to be LA something. The Eli Drake name happened by accident. I hadn't been talking for months, and Drew was talking for me. At some point, I needed to tell people my name, so I started spelling it out and decided to keep it. For me, simplicity was key. If a name is too complicated, it's hard for people to remember or chant. So simplicity is important."
