Farmers’ Leader’s Son Among Two Arrested in Uttar Pradesh for Attempting to Derail Train

Two men, including the son of a local farmers' leader, have been arrested for allegedly trying to derail a train by placing a wooden log on a railway track in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, over the weekend. The police reported on Wednesday that an alert locomotive pilot managed to prevent an accident by applying the brakes just in time.


The men arrested are Dev Singh and his neighbor Mohan Kumar, both in their twenties and from the village of Ariyara in Farrukhabad. During questioning, they admitted that they did it to become famous. “The accused believed that after the incident, their names would be highlighted and they would become famous,” said Ram Avtar, the Station House Officer of Kayamganj Police Station.

Dev Singh’s father, Kamlesh Kumar, is known as a farmers' leader in the area.

According to the police, an Indian Railways employee named Jaheer Ahmed Khan filed a First Information Report (FIR) on August 24 against unknown persons for placing a wooden log on the railway track, which endangered passengers and caused damage to government property.
