Wayanad Landslide Crisis: Death Toll Reaches 276, Over 200 Injured.

The situation in Kerala's Wayanad district has become more dire as the death toll from the recent landslides has risen to 276. Over 200 people have been injured, and many remain missing following the devastating events in the hilly areas near Meppadi.

Rahul Gandhi, the former MP of Wayanad and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, will be visiting the region today. He will be accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. They plan to visit relief camps and the medical college to meet with families affected by the disaster.

The Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, confirmed that 240 people are still missing. However, more than 1,500 individuals have been rescued from the affected areas. The rescue efforts are ongoing, involving various agencies and the armed forces.

An all-party meeting, chaired by CM Vijayan, will also take place in the district to discuss the ongoing search and rescue operations. According to reports from Manorama, the Army has built a bailey bridge at Mundakkai to speed up the rescue efforts.

CM Vijayan also mentioned that 45 relief camps have been set up in Wayanad, providing shelter to over 3,000 people who have been displaced by the landslides. The state is working around the clock to ensure that those affected receive the help and support they need during this difficult time.
