This new aid package is valued at $125 million. It includes air defense interceptors, munitions for rocket systems and artillery, multi-mission radars, and anti-tank weapons, according to the State Department on Friday.
The U.S. has provided billions of dollars in assistance to Ukraine to help it defend against Russian attacks. This latest support comes after a Russian airstrike killed at least 14 people in a mall in Kostiantynivka, located in the eastern Donetsk region.
"The end goal here is to help Ukraine defend itself," said John Kirby, the White House national security council communications adviser, during a press briefing.
However, some Republicans have raised concerns about the Biden administration's spending on military and economic aid for Ukraine, especially given the current domestic challenges. The U.S. national debt has now surpassed $35 trillion.
On Friday, Russia’s Lipetsk region, which is just north of Kursk, was reportedly attacked by Ukrainian drones. An ammunition depot and warehouse were hit, with around 700 Russian guided bombs allegedly destroyed, according to East2West media sources cited by Fox News Digital.
Pro-Kremlin military bloggers released a video online showing the aftermath of what they claimed was a Ukrainian ambush on a Russian convoy Thursday night. The video depicted burned-out vehicles, some of which contained the bodies of dead Russian soldiers.
In response, Russia declared a federal-level emergency in the Kursk region, just four days after hundreds of Ukrainian troops crossed the border in what seemed to be Kyiv’s largest attack on Russian soil since the war began.
Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that reinforcements were being sent to Kursk to counter Ukraine’s raid. This included the deployment of multiple rocket launchers, towed artillery guns, tanks transported on trailers, and heavy tracked vehicles.
