MS Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricket captains ever. Besides his captaincy, Dhoni is famous for his powerful hitting. During his career, Dhoni led India to win the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
At 43 years old, Dhoni remains incredibly popular in India. This was evident during IPL 2024, where many fans wore Dhoni jerseys. When a Pakistani sports influencer asked fans if Dhoni was better than Mohammad Rizwan, it did not sit well with Harbhajan Singh.
The influencer asked on X, "MS Dhoni or Mohammad Rizwan? Who is better? Tell me honestly."
Harbhajan responded sharply, "What are you smoking nowadays? What a silly question to ask. Guys, tell him. DHONI is far ahead of RIZWAN. Even Rizwan would agree. I like Rizwan; he is a good player who always plays with intent, but this comparison is wrong. DHONI is number 1 in world cricket even today. No one is better than him behind the stumps."
Dhoni has not retired from IPL and has won the title with CSK five times. Before IPL 2024, he handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad but was still active in setting up fielding positions during the season. The craze for Dhoni was immense last season, as explained by Justin Langer. Speaking to BBC Sport, he said, "It’s extraordinary. I heard about it first; then we played them [CSK] twice. They came to Lucknow, and our capacity crowd [in Ekana Stadium] is about 50,000, and honestly, there would have been 48,000 MS Dhoni number seven shirts. I couldn’t believe it, and then we went to CSK, and there wasn’t 98%; there was 100%. And it’s unbelievable. The hero worship in India is unbelievable."
He added, "I felt it when we played in India before as a player, especially with Sachin Tendulkar. Then, when I was coaching with [Australia], it was Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. But when you get over there, it’s unbelievable."
